On worship. On stillness. on reverence.
Worship is crucial for our walks as Christ-followers
In this world of noise and words and chaos that follows us everyday as we try to find the time to make Jesus a big deal. What a mission that lays before us!
Sometimes, though, other people can see what we’re trying to communicate much better than we can. That’s why we read other people’s writing, talk and discuss. We need this time together, because sometimes it takes someone else to point out the thing that we knew all along. Here’s some wisdom that hopefully satisfies and satiates as we pursue worshiping our Lord together.
“For when we cease to worship God, we do not worship nothing, we worship anything.”
“We must never rest until everything inside us worships God.”
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
“In the end, worship can never be a performance, something you’re pretending or putting on. It’s got to be an overflow of your heart…Worship is about getting personal with God, drawing close to God.”
“Take a break from all the plans that you made
And sit at home alone and wait for God to whisper
Beg Him please to open up his mouth and speak
And pray for real upon your knees until they blister.
You can sing all you want to,
And still get it wrong, worship is more than a song.”
“Great is the LORD in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. Let them praise your great and awesome name— he is holy. The King is mighty, he loves justice— you have established equity; in Jacob you have done what is just and right. Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy.”
“It is in the process of being worshipped that God communicates His presence to men.”
Charles H. Spurgeon
“God is to be praised with the voice, and the heart should go therewith in holy exultation.”
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”
“The best, most beautiful, and most perfect way that we have of expressing a sweet concord of mind to each other is by music.”
